Plan Locks, Greyed-Out Controls and Preset Pickers
How to read plan locks and dimmed presets, why some controls are greyed out, and how to use the visual preset pickers.
Locked Sections
Every section is visible on every plan. When one is above your plan, you can still open it and read every setting, but you cannot change them. A pill over it reads "Feature Locked" with the plan that unlocks it, and pressing it opens the plans window on that plan. In Basics, the Mode settings tab shows a small lock with the plan name when the mode's own settings are locked.
You can always pick any finished mode, watch it and record it on its standard settings. A lock only stops you changing the locked settings.
Tip
- The plan shown on a lock is always current. If this guide and a lock in the Studio ever disagree, the lock is right.
Modes in Development
A mode marked "In development" runs on our default settings so everyone judges the same build. While one is selected its settings are shown but locked, Physics, Arts, 3D, Audio and Video are greyed out, and Randomize, Record and the seed generator are removed. No plan unlocks it early: it opens for everyone when it is finished.
What "Greyed Out" Means
A greyed-out control cannot do anything right now. The Studio greys it out instead of hiding it, so the panel does not reshuffle as you work. Hover or tap its ⓘ: the explanation starts with "Disabled" and says why, for example that another setting is off, that it only works in certain modes, or that a recording is running.
Info Icons
Almost every setting has a small ⓘ. Hover it (tap it on a touch screen) to read what the setting does and, when it is greyed out, why. Controls that can slow the preview also show a small three-bar cost icon.
Preset Pickers
Large catalogues of looks, such as ball effects, collision effects and layouts, open in a visual picker instead of a plain dropdown. You can search by name, filter by shelf and click a thumbnail to apply it. The shuffle button picks a random entry from what is shown.
Entries are sorted by plan: the ones included with every plan first, then Creator, then Pro. Entries above your plan are dimmed with a small plan chip, and clicking one leaves your selection unchanged. Randomize and shuffle only pick entries your plan includes.
