Trails & Impact Effects

Add glowing trails and choose from a large library of collision blast effects.

01

Styling the Ball

The ball itself is styled in the Arts tab under Ball Studio. Ball Radius sets its size, and the color controls set a solid color, a rainbow cycle, or a gradient. Add a glow to make it read as light rather than a flat dot, which is what gives runs their premium look on a dark background. On a small phone screen, a bright ball with a moderate glow is far more readable than a dark, matte one.

Technical Parameters
  • Ball Radius: 1 to 150 (default 10)
  • Color: solid, rainbow cycle, or gradient
  • Glow radius and glow color
  • Optional border and custom ball texture
02

Ball Trails

Trails follow the path of your balls and emphasize their motion. You can adjust the length, color, thickness, and fade of the trails to create light-painting streaks behind every ball. Long, slow-fading trails over a dark background produce the signature neon look; short trails add subtle motion blur. Trails are on by default with a length of 30, if you see none, check the toggle in the Arts tab or the Line Trail Engine add-on in the Engine tab.

Technical Parameters
  • Length: 0 to 200 (default 30)
  • Fill Opacity / Stroke Opacity: 0 to 1
  • Trail Thickness: 0.1 to 10
  • Trail Glow: 0 to 50 (best on a dark background)
  • Rainbow Trails cycles the hue; Infinite Trails never fade
Pro Tip

Dropping the trail opacity below 1 lets overlapping passes build density where the ball has been most, which turns a flat ribbon into real structure. Infinite Trails plus a short run is the recipe for a clean geometric still.

Impact & Collision Blasts

When balls collide with boundaries or each other, you can trigger a visual blast. There is a large library of blast animations to choose from, so you can match the effect to your mood, explosive, celebratory, cosmic, or glitchy. You control how many particles each impact throws, how long the burst lasts, and its scale.

StyleExamples
ExplosiveExplosion, Explosive Shards, Firework, Chain Reaction
CelebratoryConfetti, Energy Orbs, Glow Fade
CosmicGalaxy Swirl, Comet Tail, Black Hole Eat, Aurora Borealis
StylizedGlitch Square, Crystal Growth, Hexagon Grid, Fractal Growth
Technical Parameters
  • Collision particles: 1 to 100 per impact
  • Duration: 100 to 2000 ms
  • Scale: 0.1 to 5.0
04

Syncing Color to Sound

For the most satisfying result, coordinate your blast color with the audio. Matching the blast to the frequency or note that triggers it ties the visual payoff to the audio payoff, so each impact lands as a single audio-visual beat rather than two separate events.

Pro Tip

Match the blast color to the audio trigger and keep the blast short, a quick, bright burst on the beat reads as "satisfying," while long, heavy effects can feel cluttered at speed.
