What Spawner Mode Actually Does

One ball becomes two, two become four, and the container fills. Everything on this page is specific to that mechanic.

Spawner Mode turns a collision into a birth event. A ball starts inside a boundary, and every qualifying impact adds new balls to the simulation instead of simply bouncing. The population curve is the story of the video: slow and readable at the start, then unmistakably exponential, then a screen packed with motion.

Because the growth is driven by physics rather than a timer, no two runs look identical. Ball speed, boundary shape, spawn rules, and the population cap together decide whether the fill takes eight seconds or forty. That single number, how long the container takes to fill, is the main thing you tune when you are shooting for a specific video length.

Spawner is also the easiest mode to combine with sound. Every spawn event is a collision, and every collision can trigger a note, so a run that starts sparse and ends dense also starts quiet and ends thick. The audio arc and the visual arc are the same arc.

How A Run Plays Out

The exact sequence the engine runs in this mode, from the first frame to the moment the run resolves.

Genesis balls enter the boundary

The run opens with your Genesis Count. Two is the default because a single ball reads as a normal bounce loop, while two immediately signals that something is multiplying. Ball size, launch speed, and the boundary shape decide how quickly the first collisions land.

A qualifying impact fires the spawner

You choose which events count. Boundary Hit spawns on wall contact, Inertial Hit spawns only when the impact is fast enough to clear the Sensitivity threshold, and Beat Spawn ties births to the music instead of to geometry. Turning on more than one trigger stacks them.

New balls inherit and spread

Spawn Amount sets how many balls each event produces, Spread Angle fans them away from the impact point, and Inherit Speed decides whether the children carry the parent momentum or start fresh. Spawn Gap keeps a single fast ball from firing the spawner dozens of times in one contact window.

Population climbs to the cap

Max Population is the ceiling and, in practice, your ending. Splitting, merging, size growth, and lifespan rules decide what the last few seconds look like: a solid wall of balls, a swarm that thins out again, or a handful of giants formed by merging.

Exponential motion sets an expectation that the container will fill completely. Viewers stay for the moment the screen saturates, and that moment is a hard stop rather than a fade, so completion rate benefits.

Density carries the sound

Turn off geometry triggers and use Beat Spawn alone, so the population steps up on the beat. Works well with a track that has an obvious build, because the growth and the build stay aligned.

Enable Splitting with a low Split Limit and a small Pieces count so each impact fragments the ball. The screen fills with small fast motion instead of a steady population climb.

Enable Merging with a generous Max Size and Slow Giants on. The run inverts: it grows crowded, then consolidates into a few slow heavy balls, which gives you a natural calm ending.

    Launch the studio with Spawner selected, then leave Genesis Count at two so the multiplication reads immediately.

    Set the trigger and the cap

    Turn on Boundary Hit, set Spawn Amount to one, and set Max Population to the density you want at the end. Play the run once and time it.

    Tune the run length

    If the fill is too fast, lower Spawn Amount or raise Spawn Gap. If it drags, raise Spawn Amount or add Inertial Hit so acceleration feeds the growth.

    Add the sound

    Attach a melody or scale so collisions play notes. Because collision count rises with population, the arrangement thickens automatically as the run proceeds.

    Frame and export

    Switch to the vertical canvas, check that the boundary sits inside the safe area on mobile, and export. Save the configuration as a preset before you change anything.

Settings That Make The Difference

  • Set Max Population from the last frame backwards. Decide how full you want the container to look, then let the spawn rate decide how long it takes to get there.
  • Spawn Gap is the fix for a run that explodes instantly. A short gap stops one fast ball from triggering many spawns during a single wall contact.
  • Inertial Hit plus acceleration gives a slow first half and a sudden second half without touching the spawn amount.
  • Keep Genesis Count low. Starting with a crowd removes the multiplication story entirely.
  • Auto-Remove with a long lifespan keeps the canvas busy while quietly retiring the oldest balls, so performance stays stable at high counts.

What Breaks A Run

  • Setting Spawn Amount above two with no gap. The container saturates before the viewer understands what is happening.
  • Leaving the population cap unlimited, which produces a frozen wall of balls and a video with no ending.
  • Using a dark ball colour on a dark background. At high density the run turns into an unreadable mass instead of visible motion.
  • Enabling splitting and merging together without testing. They pull the population in opposite directions and the run stalls in the middle.

Tuning the growth curve

Spawner runs live or die on pacing. The three levers that matter are Spawn Amount, Spawn Gap, and Max Population, and they interact. Raising Spawn Amount steepens the curve immediately, raising Spawn Gap flattens the early section without changing the ceiling, and Max Population decides where the curve stops. Change one at a time and replay the run, because changing two at once makes it impossible to tell which one moved the timing.

Ball speed is the hidden fourth lever. Faster balls hit walls more often, so the same spawn settings produce a much steeper curve on a fast run. If you have tuned a run you like and then raise the speed for visual energy, expect to raise Spawn Gap to compensate.

Keeping high ball counts readable

Density is the appeal of the mode and also its main risk. Once several hundred balls share a small boundary the eye stops tracking individuals and the video flattens. Contrast is the first fix: a bright ball palette against a dark background keeps the mass legible far longer than mid-tone colours.

Size is the second fix. Slightly smaller balls at high counts preserve the gaps between them, and gaps are what make motion visible. If you want large balls, lower the population cap rather than fighting the crowding.

The cleanup settings are the third fix. Auto-Remove with a lifespan, or Shrink on Death, retires the oldest balls quietly so the frame keeps changing even after the population plateaus.

Spawner Mode Questions

Spawner Mode is a physics configuration where collision nodes act as spawners. When a ball collides with a boundary, obstacle, or another ball, it triggers a spawner function that generates new balls. This creates an exponential multiplier effect, turning a single bouncing ball run into a highly satisfying cascade of hundreds of glowing balls spawning in rapid succession.

To handle high ball counts smoothly, go to General Settings and enable 'Optimization Mode' (which offloads collision physics to a background Web Worker). You can also set a cap on the maximum ball count (e.g., 50 or 100) and disable ball-to-ball collisions. This reduces calculations from quadratic to linear, keeping the UI responsive while preserving the visual aesthetic.

Spawner Mode is one of the most viral categories on short-form video algorithms.
