Make the ball play music: each bounce triggers the next note of a song or MIDI file. The format behind the "ball plays a song" videos.

What Rhythmic Mode Does

In Rhythmic mode the bouncing ball plays a melody. Your chosen song is held as an ordered queue of notes, and every time the ball hits a wall, a ring, or another ball, the engine plays the next note in that queue and moves the pointer forward. It does not guess a pitch from the impact, the order is fixed, only the timing is physical. That is why the tune stays recognizable no matter how chaotic the physics get. This is the format behind the hugely popular "ball plays a song" videos on TikTok, Reels, and Shorts.

Choosing a Song

Open the Audio tab and find Selected Song / MIDI in the Rhythmic Mode Settings. The dropdown has two groups: the built-in Standard Library (around fifty melodies including Megalovania, Tetris, Fur Elise, Canon in D, and Imperial March) and MIDI Files (Cloud), which is anything you have uploaded yourself. Built-in melodies are stored as note sequences, so they always play cleanly in order.

Pro Tip

Melodies with a strong stepwise shape, like Fur Elise or Tetris, read best, because a listener can follow the line. A melody with many repeated notes can sound flat unless you vary the visuals.

Locking the Bounces to the Beat

With the Music Sync add-on on, the engine steers the bounce timing so impacts land on the beat instead of wherever raw physics would put them. With it off, the song still plays a note on every bounce, but the rhythm follows free physics. If the tune sounds right but the rhythm is loose, turn Music Sync on in the Engine tab Add-ons.

Stopping the Melody From Racing Ahead

The most common problem is the melody outrunning the music because tiny contacts fire notes. Three settings in Rhythmic Mode Settings fix it. Min Bounce Spacing sets the shortest gap between two sounding bounces and is the bluntest, most reliable lever. Min Bounce Distance requires the ball to travel a set distance before another note fires. Min Speed Cap ignores impacts below a speed threshold, so glancing scrapes stay silent. Raise Min Bounce Spacing first.

A Good First Setup

Pick a short, recognizable melody, set a clean instrument like Music Box or Grand Piano, and keep the ball count low so each note is clear. Turn Music Sync on so the bounces land on the beat, and raise Min Bounce Spacing to around 80 to 120 ms if notes double up. Let the run build slightly toward the end, then export 9:16.

Pro Tip

Music Box and Glockenspiel read most clearly against physics impacts, because their short attack matches the moment of contact. Grand Piano is the safe default.
